No. Although our coaching works best for individuals that have developed a certain level of gross and fine motor skills.
The answer is a qualified, yes. Due to the content, instructional approach, and length of sessions, there is a definite need for gross and fine motor skill control and mental stamina. Some children develop this capability earlier than others. We find children are more successful when they take the instruction with a parent, or a parent has already worked with Mindful Swimming previously and supports the principles involved. We may suggest shorter instructional periods depending on the age, and a pre-assessment will be necessary. The youngest Mindful Swimming has attempted to train in the water is an eight year-old.
Yes, we will show you how to be more efficient and relaxed in the water so you can save energy, go farther – faster. Video analysis will demonstrate the difference between where you are – and where you wish to be. We’ll provide the exercises and skills needed to train in your own time. After completing the fundamentals, performance athletes may want to consider wish to consider the Speed Metrics Course where we demonstrate how to improve stroke rate, stroke length, and how to make speed metrics work for you.
Our Mindful Swimming LLC, Early Strokes sessions endeavor to provide a reassuring environment for individuals to learn to be comfortable in all depths of water, learn basic body coordination /control sequences, and a cognitive behavior approach/tool that will provide the mental, emotional and physical capability necessary to take the Fundamentals Course.
Absolutely ! We have used various camera and recording systems over the years. Most recently we have invested in the Athlee system from Denmark which promises to give our swimmers and coaching, a much higher level of capability to unlock the potential of swimmers.
As excited as we are to use video, we also realize that it can be over used and interpreted improperly. Sometimes, video can result in “paralysis by analysis”, which only adds to swimmer frustration and demotivation. Mindful Swimming uses video as a positive solution, not a negative, where the only concern is “what’s wrong”.
Mindful Swimming is about training the whole person. Making brain and body connections, establishing / refining movement patterns, learning new attention and awareness skills and developing finer Proprioception skills. Our Fundamentals training does not involve swimming lots of hard lengths. This means that it should not be physically tiring, and you don’t need to be especially fit to enjoy the day. This is not to say that you won’t feel the need to catch your breath, or be sore afterward. One thing is for sure. You will be receiving lots of information in several different ways, and you should expect to be mentally tired.

Absopositutely. Our number 1 goal in swim instruction is to promote safety for water activities and prevent drowning. We have a lot of toys, and toward that goal, we use several teaching aids, when necessary, to encourage proprioception skills, to help present an idea or develop a feeling of a particular body movement and body motion in/thru the water. Several of our aids are homemade and were created at the suggestion of previous swimmers. However, we only use aids as a very temporary device to get an idea, or feeling across.
Refunds can occur due to two circumstances. First, after attending the initial Zoom meeting and the first session, if you then believe Mindful Swimming content and coaching style is not a fit, we will refund all but $ 65.00 of the registration and equipment fees. Upon the return of all equipment.
