How To Get Started

Overview

Of The Process

Male swimmer stands at the end of a swim lane, wearing a red swim cap and goggles on top of his head, smiling and feeling accomplished after his recent training session.

Registration, Coaching & Video processes

After the initial contact we ask potential participants to review our coaching philosophy, instructional process and the introductory video.  If they wish to proceed, then we set up a scheduled date for an introduction via a Zoom call. During the Zoom call we cover the contents of our instruction in detail and answer any questions participants may have.

We wish to make sure that everyone is comfortable with our instructional approach and believes they can work with the coach and the facility location.

After the Zoom meeting the participant can make a decision to submit the registration forms, if they wish to move forward. After submitting the forms, the participant can choose to submit a check, or receive a Zelle or Venmo request for payment.

Previously our delivery method was based on large groups using weekend workshops in different locations around the Southeast.

Covid changed this and had us consider the safety of being inside with large groups, especially during the Winter months.

Our current delivery method is almost exclusively one-on-one instruction in a reserved lane(s).  The exception to this being a small group, typically 3-4  of family members, or friends.

We do not foresee doing any large workshops in the near future.

Coaching / Instructional Process

After registration and payment is completed, each participant will receive links to pre-course videos. These links will cover the areas of core stability, back strength, and box breathing. We expect our participants to be familiar with these exercises and terminology prior to the first session. These exercises play a crucial role in the effectiveness of our training.

WARNING !  We ask that rehearsals be completed between sessions.

These rehearsals can be dryland, wet, or a combination. We ask all participants to get in the water at least twice between sessions to review the previous work.

Female competitive swimmer adjusts her goggles, dressed in a sleek silver swim cap and a striking red and black bathing suit, as she prepares to dive into her training session.

We ask all participants to agree to this on the registration form.

Shortly after a session the coach will forward a review of the previous session and outline the rehearsal activities.

Over the years, we have found this request adds a tremendous amount to the progress and enthusiasm of our participants. They get a chance to see themselves grow in skill level, water confidence, and both mental and physical capability during these independent sessions.

Together at the beginning of the next session, we un-pack their experience. Many times this allows us to refine a trouble area. Or, it can serve as a springboard for the next skill.

Each participant will have phone and email support for the program duration. In addition, the coach is available for a Zoom call to review and / or clarify any questions, concerns, or movement patterns.

Video Analysis

Above and below water video analysis is an integral part of the Mindful Swimming LLC instructional process. We have invested in the most portable, up to date, wireless camera and software.  The camera utilizes an ultra wide angle, with a hi resolution.

However, please understand the use of video is not mandatory and is strictly voluntary. There is a place on the registration form to indicate your preference. Video analysis is available in all programs except Fundamental Skills I ( unless requested ). The use of video is solely at the discretion of the coach, and may not occur during every session.
