All OWS I, II and III participants must have completed FS II.
OWS I is intended to transition the participant from the pool environment to in-land protected waters.
The participant is required to be able to swim at least 2 x 200 yds/mts with a 5 minute rest. The participant learns about the specific physical and safety challenges encountered swimming in protected in-land
waters. As well as skills for rounding a bouy and sighting. OWS I is instructed in both the Life Center Pool and the Elite Endless Pool. Use of a tow bouy is required in all MIndful Swimming open water sessions. Wetsuits are optional.
OWS II is available after completion of OWS I. During OWS II the participant transitions from in-land protected waters to open un-protected water. Building on skills from OWS I the participant is challenged with waves, currents, strong winds, tides, and aquatic life.
OWS II takes place in areas of the N.C and S.C coast which offer Lifeguarded swimming areas during the summer months.
OWS III is an advanced offering for those swimmers planning to attempt a true long distance, or marathon distance swim event in any body of water, anywhere in the world.
The swimmer works on tactics to endure Cold Water Immersion. The coach works closely with the participant to review event planning, including: safety, event timing, support team training and required resources, equipment, and legal considerations. All endurance training sessions are conducted in the Elite Endless Pool, or on location.
OWS III requires at least a years preparation and multiple trips to the same, or different locations for exposure and training.
